As a Chinese Canadian, Julia has a multicultural background and tends to bring that element into her designs. She experienced a quick change of atmosphere at a young age and had to learn to adapt to the new environment. Growing up in the city of Toronto meant being engulfed in a colorful environment full of diversity that she sees as a “cultural mosaic”. This became an integral part of her identity and helped form her perception of herself as a “hybrid” of different cultures. Since moving to New York City and graduating from the BFA fashion design program at Parsons the New School for Design, she has expanded her horizon and matured her point of view creatively. She is a designer who envisions a particular lifestyle for women through clothing. She believes that the art of creating fashion is similar to making a daily costume for the individual to put on in order to establish his/her identity visually.
